Research into the Live Music Industry

This blog is dedicated to a research project being conducted by Dr Paul Carr into the live music industry in Wales. It is funded by The Higher Education Academy and will be used as a portal to discuss how the research is going, in addition to posting any information deemed relevant.

The research builds on earlier work conducted for the Welsh Music Foundation into the live music industry in Wales, in addition to work on the compromise of Welsh Identity in the music industry and issues of forming partnerships between higher education and industry. The main aims of the project are as follows:

  1. How do musicians in Wales make a living in the live music industry?
  2. What training is needed (including internships) and how it can be accessed?
  3. How can Higher Education, government and industry address these needs?
  4. Review the literature surrounding employability in the live sector relevant to the Welsh Music Industry.

After examining the results of an online questionnaire and stakeholder interviews, a detailed report will be compiled, which will be publically available.

Can I encourage anyone who has a vested interest in the live music industry in Wales to subscribe to this blog and complete the questionnaire.  Also, feel free to contact me direct if you would like to discuss anything.
